Taking care of our mental health is vital in helping us live a happier and healthier life. Yet with everything that has been going on right now, taking time out for ourselves and looking after our well-being seems impossible.

I know how that feels. I mean, there’s no denying that this year has been so overwhelming and every day just seems to be a struggle.

It’s like life just keeps coming at you, not even giving us a chance to breathe. And with everything that has been going on right now, all the losses, the pain, the struggles, taking care of our mental health is probably the last thing in our minds.

I don’t blame you for that. I’ve been there, a couple of years back, I never even understood the importance of my mental health. For years, I took it for granted.

I put everything and everyone else’s needs first and I took my needs for granted.

Until one day I realized how mentally and emotionally exhausted I was and how unhappy I’ve become.

Don’t make the same mistake as I did. Please remember that regardless of how difficult life may seem, we can still achieve peace and strengthen our mental wellness.

We are in control of our thoughts, peace, and happiness — always remember that.

And by taking small and easy steps every day, we can definitely achieve good mental health.

Here are some habits that have not only helped boost my mood but it also helped drastically improve my mental health…

Don’t be afraid to say no.

Don’t be afraid to take time off for yourself.

Learn to be kind to yourself every day.

Learn to take a break.

Be grateful every day.

Don’t be afraid to open up and talk about your feelings.

Exercise. Take a walk. Run. Head outside.

(anxious about doing something big? Remember that it’s okay to take small and easy steps and not push yourself)

Disconnect and unplug.

Learn to let go of the things that you can’t control.

Be kind and do small good deeds.

Practice mindfulness and learn to be present in the moment.

Stop comparing yourself with others.

Don’t be afraid to let go of negative things and toxic people in your life.

Remember that your daily habits can have a huge impact on your well-being, mental health, and happiness. But mastering all of these is definitely not something that you can do overnight and that’s okay, don’t push yourself.

The important thing is you take small steps every day and be consistent with your effort. Taking small steps in incorporating these habits in your daily life can have a huge impact on your mental health.  So, give it a go!
